If the Chargers coach really told the Fox broadcast team that his team was better one through 43 than the Panthers — and the guys doing the game repeatedly brought this up — Turner is dumber than his coaching resume indicates.
You cannot make statements like that Week 1. Week 7 or 8 maybe. And you especially do not say about a team with Jake Delhomme at QB. A Delhomme coming off major surgery at that. You don’t know what you are getting. But it is clear that a team with a healthy Jake is a whole different animal.
His play is probably worth a TD to his team, but his emotion and fire, how to count that? Is it too much to say that it too is worth six points to his Panthers, making them play a little better than they really are? I don’t think so.
Certainly every player on the roster now has reason to think that if they can just keep fighting, keep every game close, Jake will pull it out in the end. And leave the Norv Turners of the world stunned and agape on the sidelines.
