I like Mexican food, but you won’t find me having lunch at El Taquito De Oro:

The stench of meat rotting in a restaurant garbage bin near their home makes Larry and Jean Taylor sick.

“It smells like a dead body,” said Jean Taylor. “There’s rats coming out from over there bigger than a cat.”

The Taylors live on Sellars Mill Road in Burlington. The Mexican restaurant, El Taquito De Oro (Spanish for “the little golden taco”), is around the corner at 2173 N. Church St.
El Taquito is also a butcher shop and a produce store. The garbage bin is behind the business; the Taylor’s yard is about 30 yards away through some woods.
When the weather gets hot, foul odors from the bin makes spending time in their yard impossible, the Taylors say.

The Taylors began noticing the problem last summer and appealed to county and city officials for help. Their complaints, they say, became entangled in bureaucratic red tape. “We fussed about it and fussed about it,” Jean Taylor said. “Evidently it’s gotten worse.”

Today might be a good sandwich day.
