Not even bankers have “bankers hours” anymore. Why? Because they know they’re in the service business and service requires you to be open for business before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m.

Have you stopped by a U.S. Post Office lately? I’ve done it twice in the past week, and on both occasions, at two different locations, it was crystal clear why the postal service is in such trouble.

In the first instance, I asked to fill out a basic form and was told they were “out.” It was the equivalent of Dairy Queen telling a customer they’re out of ice cream.

In the second instance, I stopped by a different location in a different county to make another attempt at filling out the same basic form. I arrived at 9:35 a.m. only to be greeted by a dark office. A man who was getting mail from the mail box area, which was indeed open, told me the counter doesn’t open until 10 a.m.

Does anyone think Fex Ex and UPS operate this way? Of course not.

It is well past time to leave this service to the private sector.
