Today, the Hendersonville Times-News headlined three stories about local businesses. Delightfully, none speak of grants from local and state tax revenues with projections for x number of jobs to be created paying y amount and investing z dollars in the local economy. What’s more, we do not read about luminaries sitting around a table brainstorming plans to make the economy grow. Instead, we read that:

  • Cam Boyd is expanding his car dealership,
  • Jordan DeLozier, who developed a search engine at age 13, which he sold for $200,000, is launching an online market, ListingDock.com, following the success of an earlier venture, SEOClerks.com, and
  • Danny Robinson is making and selling knives.
