Mitch, you announced earlier this week that UNC-Chapel Hill had named Madeleine Albright to be its next commencement speaker. Well, The Daily Tar Heel wrote excitedly about the choice in an the article entitled “Hooray for Madeleine”:
With Albright, the committee has chosen a big name, but it has also chosen a distinguished academic who will please both students and administration.
Given her extensive political background in foreign policy, she will fit into the University’s goals for global awareness nicely.
She also has more bipartisan appeal than most political figures.
And for those students not as interested in her political background, then at the very least, her recent cameo on “Gilmore Girls” should appeal to students hungry for a pop-culture figure.
