As 2007 comes to a close, it is clear that the mainsteam media is about a week behind alt-media in discerning truth from fact. Sometimes more than, a week. In this case, it has been obvious for some time that the Ron Paul-is-a-cryptoNazi smear was a complete fabrication.
Yet the AP, the NYT, and all the establishment outlets ran with the story, even though it was absurd on its face. Then again, as most reporters and editors do not have the critical thinking skills needed to understand the difference between freedom and fascism, linking Paul with Nazis probably made perfect sense to them.
