Last year, Obama’s campaign portrayed him as a high-minded visionary who was above the dirty fray of politics. I recall seeing a piece of his literature telling people that when he was in the White House, he wouldn’t be listening to lobbyists — he’d be listening to YOU. Lots of people were taken in by that.

Now that we have some experience with the Beloved Leader, the truth is apparent; he’s every bit as sleazy a politician as any who has ever trod the soil of Washington. He won’t cross any special interest group that helped elect him and is in fact eager to ladle money and power their way. The trial bar is a prime example, as Kim Strassel shows in her column today.

The cost of medical care is driven up greatly by the fear of lawsuits, but the trial lawyers are an enormous ATM machine for the Democrats, so Obama won’t touch tort reform. Strassel concludes: “The tort reform issue has clarified this presidency. Namely, that the bipartisan president is in fact very partisan, that the new-politics president still takes orders from the old Democratic lobby.”

Too bad the laws against deceptive advertising don’t apply to political campaigns.
