I think this short article captures Obama.  The article discusses Obama’s recent comments about the Tea Party movement.

Doublespeak

“But he [Obama] said he didn’t want to paint Tea Party activists ‘in broad brushes'”

Yet he goes on to say “he believes the Tea Party is built around a ‘core group’ of people who question whether he is a U.S. citizen and believe he is a socialist.”

So he doesn’t want to paint them in broad brushes, so he paints them in broad brushes.

Not Getting It?

Even worse though is that he just doesn’t get the movement, or more likely he does understand the movement and wants to marginalize them.  He already has assistance from the left-wing media (i.e. Obama press relations outlets) in trying to make the Tea Party movement look like nuts.

The problem though for him and the leftist media is the Tea Party activists cross party lines, are from all kinds of different backgrounds, and all are concerned with constitutional principles and the proper role of government.  There’s nothing wacky about them.

There’s a reason why we have separation of powers (between branches and between the state and federal government), because there is a fear of a concentration of power and concern that too much change too fast isn’t good for the country.  When there’s too much rapid change, there will be less buy in from the people and the government loses some of its legitimacy.

So it should come as no surprise that when President Obama, with the aid of the left-wing media, pushes an extreme left-wing agenda, there will be strong and vocal opposition.  These opponents aren’t nuts, they are patriots who deserve to be respected regardless of whether you agree with them.

Disrespecting the People

Obama’s comments reflect his complete disrespect for the American people generally and to those who don’t agree with him.  The left-wing politicians and media are showing that same lack of respect.  Maybe this is characteristic of people who believe they are smarter than everyone else and the government is better able to solve your problems that you can.

I’m sick of hearing about how citizens should respect politicians.  The politicians first need to start respecting the people.  Obama’s lack of respect for fellow citizens is a disgrace to the country and to the Presidency.
