Winston-Salem Journal’s Richard Craver reports the “historic” Hanes skivvies plant on Stratford Road will be torn down to make way for a $30 million mixed-use development.
I put historic in quotes since the current plant has been up only since 1958, but Hanes started manufacturing on the site in 1910. The current plant closed in 2007, six years after Greensboro’s Guilford Mills shuttered its Greenberg plant along Wendover Avenue. Seems like it was no time at all before the plant was in rubbles and the Costco was up and running.
