A couple of weeks ago I pondered how my new garbage pickup would work with the city-distributed bins given the narrowness of my one-way street. I observed as the garbage truck rolled down the street on Monday. I guy rolls the bin from the curb to the back of the truck, where an automatic arm lifts and dumps. Mystery solved.

But another garbage mystery lingers…..and lingers…..and lingers:

After hearing a variety of options for what they could do with Greensboro’s trash, City Council members punted the issue back to City Manager Rashad Young.

At a council briefing Tuesday, they asked him to review the garbage proposals, with an eye toward the impact on the community and costs. Young said he would get back to council members with a suggestion for how they can move forward.

It was unclear exactly what shape that mission will take or how long Young will need to get back to council.

For what it’s worth, council member Robbie Perkins wants to keep hauling Greensboro’s trash out to Montgomery County until a “regional solution” is reached. Former City Council member Mike Barber —- headed for a sabbatical in Spain —- explained why regional waste disposal isn’t the answer.
