The Haywood County Commissioners agreed to spend $440,583 in North Carolina Education Lottery funds for bleacher maintenance and upgrades at most of its secondary schools. Before voting in favor of the measure, a few commissioners stated their concern that the state still had to patch its $4 billiion budget gap and would likely lay off teachers. The commissioners would then be expected to make sure no teachers were fired.
