Orange County Manager Laura Blackmon has laid out for commissioners what the two school systems’ continued cries for more money will mean to property owners. According to the News & Observer:

Blackmon said that if the school systems’ budget requests continued to rise by the same percentage increase they’re requesting this year, the county’s property tax rate would have to jump by more than 50 cents over the next five years to fully fund the budget requests.

As it is already, county residents are likely to incur a tax hike of at least 3.7 cents, raising the tax rate to 94 cents per $100 of valuation.
