Planners say changes they have proposed for Black Mountain’s land use code would give citizens more choice. It turns out that “greater choice” translates to four instead of two zoning districts. The addition of several new ordinances indicates Black Mountain is not going against the grain of growing government.

Ordinances that have been recommended during the land use code revisions include the model flood hazard prevention ordinance, a stormwater ordinance, building regulations updates, erosion prevention and slope protection, and changes in height for industrial districts.

It is also proposed that the town be allowed to fine persons out of compliance with the minimum housing code.
