Today I received the press release below from Orange County. Keep in mind that Orange County government is so pervasive that the property tax rate is 85.8 cents per $100 in valuation. And now, the county is looking at holding a county fair.

ORANGE COUNTY, NC (October 18, 2013)— The Orange County “County Fair Working Group” is hosting a public meeting to gauge interest and discuss the possibilities for an Orange County Fair.

The Board of Orange County Commissioners appointed the Working Group to explore the possibility of organizing a County Fair, likely in 2015. Residents and interested groups or organizations are encouraged to share their ideas and opinions with the Working Group on Wednesday, October 30, at 7:00 p.m.

The meeting will take place at the Solid Waste Operations Center located at 1207 Eubanks Road in Chapel Hill.

The basis of a county fair would celebrate Orange County’s historic, cultural, farming and artistic identity, while providing all residents and their families with an opportunity to celebrate the community.

The event could showcase food, crafts, agricultural activities, games, and local music groups.
