The Orange County school board has rightly decided that students who are home-schooled or attend private schools will not be allowed to participate in district extracurricular events or take a course in the district. It’s all or nothing. Yes, every taxpayer helps fund the public school system, but when one opts out of a public system, there are benefits, burdens, and responsibilities. There are plenty of community and church options for academics, sports, arts, etc. for parents of home-schoolers and privately educated kids to take part in. To be blunt, when you split from the public system, you split. If you’re not fully prepared to do that, then re-enroll in the Orange public system.
