President Obama has now explained his comments about building a mosque near ground zero by claiming that he was simply restating the undisputed fact that, given our heritage of religious freedom, Muslims have every right to build their Mosque where they want. He was refraining from commenting on the wisdom of building the Mosque. First he stated that “As a citizen and as president I believe that Muslims have the..right to build a place of worship and a community center…in lower Manhattan.” Two days later he clarified his comment by saying that  “I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making a decision to put a mosque there.”

In keeping with his new found non-judgmental approach to rights here is a partial list of other statements I’d like to hear from the president.

1. As a citizen and as president I believe that the American people have the right to be overweight. I will not comment on the wisdom of making a decision to be overweight.

2. As a citizen and as president I believe that the American people have the right to smoke. I will not comment on
the wisdom of making a decision to smoke.

the wisdom of making a decision to use electricity generated from fossil fuels.

 4. As a citizen and as president I believe that the American people have the right to drive low gas mileage SUVs. I will not comment on
the wisdom of making a decision to drive low gas mileage SUVs.

5. As a citizen and as president I believe that the American people have the right not to purchase health insurance. I will not comment on
the wisdom of making a decision not to purchase health insurance.

6. As a citizen and as president I believe that the American people have the right to receive a salary that is as large as their employers are willing to pay them. I will not comment on
the wisdom of paying or receiving any such salary.

I invite additions to this list…
