There’s calm and then there’s comatose. The Carolina Panthers are closer to the latter thus far during the NFL’s wild west talent grope known as the signing period.

Their depth along the OL is gone, depth that provided many, many starts the past two seasons. The Julius Peppers situation drags on, with ESPN’s John Clayton reporting absolutely no movement. This led Clayton to conclude that Peppers was likely to stay a Panther this year.

Clayton no doubt has his ear to the NFL tele-type and is picking up no vibrations regarding Peppers. But he underestimates the extent to which Peppers torched his ties to the Panthers by announcing they had failed him. He is more likely to sit out the year than suit up as a Panther again.

Meanwhile, no sign of a CB fix or additional depth for the DL. This team could be in serious trouble come draft day.
