So says the NTSB in its preliminary report on the Sept. 11th single-engine plane crash which killed Skipper Beck. Additional flight data is still to be analyzed and the plane’s wreckage will continue to be examined by investigators.

The initial conclusion is that the plane’s parachute rescue system was only activated as a result of impact with the ground.

The final report on the crash will attempt to find a definitive cause of the accident and that report is expected to take several more months to complete.
