Yet another irony: PART runs a half-page ad in yesterday’s N&R, and today I read this quote from board member Becky Smothers:

Administrators also must refocus their time and money on the core mission of keeping as many buses on the road as possible, Smothers said. That means possibly redirecting money to PART bus services from such other agency programs as transportation planning, air-quality monitoring and advertising, she said.

“Last night, I saw two PART ads back to back on TV,” Smothers said. “Is that necessary?”

The N&R mentions the fact that federal regulations prevent PART from raising fares more than 25 percent without a study to make nobody’s civil rights are violated. That still wouldn’t make a huge difference, and —-again—-local governments aren’t pitching in. Constituents see too many buses running empty.
