Here’s a weird tale. The head of computer security for state agencies in South Carolina routinely sends out fake phishing emails to state employees. The goal? To see which employees bite and then train them not to do it anymore.

“We see who is clicking on things that they don’t know where the e-mail came from. Or if they will try to download programs for whatever reason,” James MacDougall told The Washington Post. “They know better than that, but what we found is a large percentage of people are like cats. Curiosity killed the cat.”

Man, I’d have to be real curious — not to mention bored — to install mystery software on my ‘pooter. Then again it is my computer and not the state’s, so maybe that explains it.
