State Rep. Patrick McHenry is certainly talking as if he is the clear winner of the Republican nomination in the 10th Congressional District. Actually, what he’s saying is, ?I am the winner.?

But the situation is rather tenuous. There will be a canvass of votes later this morning (Friday), which may take several hours. Provisional ballots and other ballots that have not yet been included in the vote tally will be factored in. McHenry?s margin over David Huffman is only 83 votes and there are some 260 provisional ballots alone, mostly in counties that Huffman won (most are in fact in Catawba County, where Huffman won handily).

As soon as a revised count comes out, I?ll blog it here.
