After stating over and over that their questions had been answered and the project will stand on its own two feet, the Winston-Salem City Council unanimously approved the largest incentive package the city has ever considered, $29 million for Billy Prim’s downtown stadium development.
“The reason it took three years to get here is we’ve insisted on that,” said councilman Robert Clark.
What I found odd while watching the city council was the fact that while a couple of speakers from the floor spoke on Prim’s behalf. But Prim himself never took the floor to answer questions in a public forum, nor did the council ask that he do so.
I’m sure Prim does legitimately believe he will fulfill his end of the bargain. All I’m saying is 25 years is a long time, and lot can or cannot happen in that time. The county seems to realize that more than the city, and it will be interesting to see what commissioners offer up.
