Holman Jenkins of the Wall Street Journal always writes a sharp column, and today’s is exceedingly so. The subject: politicians who take idiotic positions regarding energy for the sake of looking good to clueless voters, who will never know that their “representatives” voted for policies that make almost every American worse off. In the cross-hairs today are Senators Byron Dorgan (D-ND) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA).
When a criminal takes advantage of a person’s ignorance to cheat him out of his money, everyone denounces the act. When a politician takes advantage of voter ignorance to get elected, that’s “just politics.”
