The North Carolina Board of Elections has ruled Montravias King, the Elizabeth City State University student running for city council in Pasquotank, may indeed run. Proposed legislation attempted to prevent students using their parents’ address for tax exemption from using a college address for voting. In the context of redefining residency, King was therefore viewed as somewhat transient and disqualified from running by a ruling of the local board of elections. A lot of us vs. them stuff hit the fan, but it had already been brewing. On the premise that one could never again pass Jim Crowe laws based on race or political party, leaders must legislate their evil biases in terms of highly-correlated factors – or whine that offenses are so intended.
