Winston-Salem Warthogs Dash President Kevin Terry says the $16 million expansion to Billy Prim’s Field of Dreams “would come from the franchise — Prim or other investors — and not from tax dollars.”

Interesting, because UNCC economics professor Tony Plath says the city will probably have some more “skin in the game”:

“There’s absolutely no appetite for big-project risk-taking in the current economic environment among the Triad’s banks,” Plath said.

“Given that the city has skin in the game here, it looks to me like there’s a municipal reason to finish this project. The way you’ll get this deal done is if the city guarantees the loan and then works out a payment schedule with the principals to repay the additional $16 million to the city,” he said.

The Winston-Salem Journal —no surprise — says the “stadium is a dream worth pursuing,” while WXII runs a skeptical story on development around Greensboro’s New Bridge Bank Park, which is cited over and over by Winston’s leaders as a model.
