The NC Wildlife Resources Commission has been ordered by a Superior Court judge to pay PETA almost $75,000. The sum will cover court fees encountered when PETA sued the commission for inappropriately issuing a permit to allow the New Year’s Eve Possum Drop in Brasstown. PETA was ruled to be in the right, but the commission filed what was ruled a frivolous appeal. Except for the $75,000 the taxpayers are out, it is all water under the bridge, because in February the governor signed into law a bill to make the Possum Drop legal.

The first half-dozen sources consulted merely copied what was on the wire. Congratulations go to WRAL for writing its own story in the interest of clarifying the matter.
