The agenda for the continuation of the June 21 Buncombe County Commissioners’ meeting is posted. There are three consent agenda items, including vague descriptions about a technology budget amendment of only six digits and then some smidgeon-like adjustments to the current budget netting $4.4 million.

The subject that couldn’t wait until the next regularly-scheduled meeting, and therefore must be heard simultaneous with the Asheville City Council meeting, was consideration of the purchase of the former Volvo plant. The county would drop only $7 million from the taxpayers into the purchase, and it wants to do so to make sure some private interest doesn’t buy the land for a purpose the commissioners don’t like.

It will be another great public-private partnership – a phrase at least some Progressives are learning is synonymous with fascism.
