Remember that picture of the man-moose mooning the camera? Well, he gets to stay on the Haywood County seal of approval, but the Goss Agency, hired by the county’s TDA, has, after many hours, come up with a new brand for Haywood.

Doesn’t it seem like WNC communities are in the press a lot for branding? I think it is because they have nothing – no Smithsonian, no Times Square, no Taj Mahal – to cause anybody to use their week of annual vacation time away from friends and family. All we have is trees and mountains, and there are a ton of those in Appalachia. It is therefore incumbent upon the spenders of the tourism tax to invent some reasons why their section of Appalachia is so much better than the others.
