History repeats. Macon County wants a steep slope ordinance to protect people against evil developers who build houses prone to slide down hills on top of other peoples’ properties. Developers say that’s nonsense. The potential hazard of houses falling down hillsides does not outweigh the imminent hazard of imposing $20,000 worth of bureaucracy on construction sites when the housing market is still woefully sagging. Then, like Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita, at least one radical blogger out here would say of bureaucrats, “They’re already dead.”
