Scrolling further through the agenda for tonight’s Greensboro City Council meeting, one notices another interesting item:

Resolution dissolving the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments and providing for distribution of assets and obligations.

PTCOG is yet another quasi-governmental organization whose function is unclear. Its Web site says PTCOG is strongly service oriented; its programs are driven by membership needs.” Its operating budget is $1.2 million, with “(o)ver half of the revenue comes from member government dues and income earned from technical assistance to member governments.”

Evidently G’boro city government no longer sees the need for PTCOG’s programs and services, although I’m sure there will be at least one council member who will argue that PTCOG is an essential entity.

Should be an interesting discussion.
