The Biz Journal reports “seven teams of companies” are bidding for Piedmont Triad International Airport’s $144 million infrastructure project, which includes a $40 million taxiway bridge over I-73:

State officials plan to whittle the group down to a short-list designed to ensure the best qualified contractors for the project, said Amanda Perry, communications officer with the N.C. Department of Transportation. The companies work with teams of contractors to develop a technical proposal and bid for the project.

The companies selected for the shortlist will officially bid on the project in December, when state officials also expect to make a selection, said Mike Mills, NCDOT’s division engineer who handles work in Guilford and Alamance counties.

The taxiway will make available land that PTI owns across the highway to potential large aviation companies, part of ongoing plans to turn the airport and its surrounding area into an aerotropolis.
