The Panther’s decision to trade down in the first round of the draft (from 14th to 25th) and use the lower spot to take LB Jon Beason from Miami raises a question: safety is the Panther’s most obvious and pressing need. Was the trade based upon the view that at least one of Michael Griffin, Reggie Nelson, or Brandon Meriweather would still be available at 25 and the Panther’s were simply wrong in their assessment?
Beason will be a good run stopper, but that 4.77 40 raises questions about his abilities in coverage… which gets us right back to the question marks at safety…
