From JLF’s latest By The Numbers report comes data on per-capita costs of local government:

 

Local taxes and fees topped $2,281 per person in Chapel Hill during the 2010 budget year, as the Orange County town maintained its No. 2 rank among North Carolina’s largest municipalities in per capita local government costs. Raleigh ($1,901) dropped two spots to No. 9, according to a new John Locke Foundation report.

Durham ($1,942) maintained its No. 6 statewide ranking, while Cary ($1,816) tumbled six spots to No. 15. Garner ($1,775) ranked No. 18, while Apex ($1,774) ranked No. 19. Both Garner and Apex dropped two spots in the 2010 list. Wake Forest, which ranked No. 8 in 2009, is unranked for 2010 because of incomplete data.
