Check out the income tax deadbeats Georgia has uncovered serving in the state legislature — 22 of them, representing both Repulicrats and Democans. One joker said he hadn’t filed returns for two years.

This all evidently started with a request from the chairman of the legislative Ethics Committee to the state department of revenue for a count of those lawmakers who owed taxes. This lead to enterprising and watchful reporters pro-actively asking legislators if they owed taxes. Presto, nearly 10 percent of those making the laws for the state are revealed to be violating them.

This means that we need both legislative guts and journalistic guts to root out any deadbeats serving in the General Assembly. Do not hold your breath.
