After nearly one year in office, President Obama has failed to implement policies that earn the confidence of the American people. From Rasmussen: (emphasis is mine)

Fifty-three percent (53%) of Democrats say the country is heading in the right direction, but only 12% of Republicans and 24% of voters not affiliated with either party agree.

A substantial number of Republicans (86%) and unaffiliated voters (72%) believe the nation is heading down the wrong track. These findings have held roughly steady for months.

In terms of policy, it is obvious that keynesian economics embraced by the Obama administration has failed — again — and as many predicted.

In terms of politics, you can bet the president’s political strategists are quaking over the “unaffiliated” number above. Clearly, the sought-after “unaffiliated” voter does not endorse the current course. While it’s always wise to remember that polls are snapshots in time, if this trend holds, it has big implications for 2010.
