Also, the company wrote a letter to Sen. Fletcher Hartsell, responding to the assertion that Alcoa leaned on UNC-TV during UNC-TV reporter Eszter Vajda’s “documentary” work.

The letter states that the company and its representatives spoke with Vajda when she asked them for information, but “did not attempt to influence or prohibit the development, production and airing of the story … .” Alcoa also said it was unaware the Vajda was producing a documentary on her own time and thought she was only working on news segments for “North Carolina Now.”
