Sad to say, most European “conservatives” are quite comfortable conserving the welfare state, their political stance going something like, “We can manage the vast apparatus of the state better than the avowed socialists can.” The idea of trying to roll back omnipotent government (as von Mises entitled one of his books) never crosses their minds.
Worse, the Republicans have caught a very bad case of the same disease.
