Joe, let’s get real for a sec, Crash is a very important film that isn’t afraid to take audiences beyond their comfort zones and tackle very important racial and cultural differences in very important ways.

Just kidding; the film was a particularly squalid effluence of the noxious, overly self-impressed (but always critically acclaimed) genre of Pay Attention, Rubes, Hollywood’s Tackling a Very Important Issue!

So naturally, it has to be nominated for Best Picture, to compete with another film of that genre, Brokeback Mountain. In Brokeback’s favor over Crash, I don’t recall anyone publicly asking the president if he’d watched the latter.

Given Joe‘s post, however, I guess he’s not that big of fan of Haggis as he seemed.
