“Brainstorm” — Natalie Wood died during the filming of this movie. I haven’t seen it since it was made in 1983, but it’s one of the few films where I’ve walked out of the theater speechless (“Saving Private Ryan” was another that did that to me). It’s about a group of scientists who develop the ability to transfer one person’s mind experience to another, and how the technology quickly gets abused for morally questionable purposes. I’ve never seen another science fiction movie that also affected my emotions like this one did. Maybe Wood’s death had something to do with it.

“The Shop Around the Corner” (1940) — This was the film that “You’ve Got Mail” was based upon. Jimmy Stewart in the Tom Hanks role (that should actually be phrased the other way around), and sub Margaret Sullavan for Meg Ryan. Our family recently watched it on Turner Classic Movies on demand. Very funny.

“Notorious” (1946) — I love Hitchcock films, and I don’t know if this is exactly “unknown,” but it’s one of his lesser knowns I believe. Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman as spies (and romantically involved of course) who try to infiltrate a group of Nazi scientists in Rio de Janeiro. I never miss it when I know it’s on, even though I know it pretty well. Serves well as both a chick flick and a suspense flick for guys. Sir Alfred at his best.

“Mildred Pierce” (1945) — Joan Crawford plays Joan Crawford better than Faye Dunaway plays Joan Crawford. (Update for Mitch)
