It never ceases to amaze me, Jon, how often those people who are concerned with corporate influences over the political process are the same ones advocating giving government the power to regulate the actions of private entities. Of course if the government can control what people can and can’t do, those with money will be interested in controlling government! If you want money out of politics, campaign finance reform and (God forbid) Bill of Right amendments will not stop it.

Just as in financial regulations, campaign finance regulations will only prohibit one kind of political donation, and clever people (whether Wal-Mart or George Soros) will find ways around it. If you want money and special interests out of politics, the answer is simple: take power out of government.
