Well, Mitch, Black already effectively admitted that he took
chiropractor cash when he pleaded guilty (no Alford!) last week to the
federal charges. So in reality last week he had already moved off the
position that he committed no wrongdoing.
The Alford plea moves
him no closer to accepting (more) responsibility for his crimes. At
best it keeps him stagnant. But in reality just about everybody in that
courtroom and most outside political observers — almost everyone other
than him and Charlie Brown
— believe he is guilty of bribing Decker to change parties and vote
for Black. The Alford plea are mere weasel words to keep him from
carrying a greater weight of culpability.
