Terry:
Good intentions notwithstanding, many home schoolers and home school associations are rightly wary of the ‘privilege’ of participating in events, selected classes, and special activities sponsored by the public schools.

The reason is straighforward. By exercising the right to access public school facilities, in states and school districts where legal access exists, home schoolers could in many cases reasonably be required to be accountable to public school authorities, under the same criteria that apply to full-time public schoolers.

The Home School Legal Defense Association is officially neutral on the question, but has analyzed the pros and cons of the issue.corrected
