George, unfortunately, Monopoly isn’t the only tool used to teach kids to be jealous of, or have negative feelings toward those who are better off. A friend of mine told me that several years ago, her teenage daughter was mocked by a teacher for the girl’s approach to preparing a household budget. The scenario presented by the teacher was one in which monthly expenses were more than monthly income. The assignment was to determine how the family would solve its financial problems. My friend’s daughter suggested the adults get second jobs and/or cut expenses. The teacher, however, told her that both her ideas were unrealistic for working families living in a world that favors the rich.
