Paul, you’re right on the money as far as implying that clever entrepreneurs in Hong Kong are not the problem for sharks. I have a hard time believing that wedding dinners in any Disney park would have a major impact on anything, even Disney’s bottom line.

There is much that should be said in Beijing, on a number of topics. In the case of shark fin soup, or more exactly, the admittedly cruel practice of “finning” live sharks, though, a protest at the source would have to cover much more territory than the Chinese capital. It is a traditional feast dish and a custom much older than Marxism, and not limited to the PRC’s boundaries.

Given the great success of western protests halting Japanese whale hunting, I think the sharks may have trouble on their hands … well, fins.
