Or the Red Guards. Officially sanctioned thuggery is the same whether it favors red, brown, or black shirts. Manchester’s biography of Churchill, The Last Lion, illustrates very clearly that the initial tolerance of Hitler by many in the democracies was out of revulsion for Stalin’s Communism, but completely blind to the stated intention of National Socialism – equally as deadly.
My question is whether we are facing the possiblity of a very ugly face emerging in the new Russia, and will we be prepared to respond to it the way Europe should have responded to Hitler. I don’t know if we have a Churchill on the horizon here.
