Jon S., a similar thought came to me one night years ago as I lay on the hood of my car after one too many Mutzigs and stared up at the Strasbourg Cathedral.
I thought of all the powerful and cruel men who had decreed that this
thing be built, giving no thought to those who died during the process.
And then it occurred to me that it wouldn’t be there these many
centuries later if they hadn’t. You have to break some eggs…

The
same could be said about the Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Many wonder if we have what it takes to win a war anymore. I wonder if
we’d even have what it takes to build a mammoth dam or bridge. Somebody
might get hurt or a snail might lose a home.
