Union officials like to push socialism, but even more they like to have a good time at the expense of the workers whom they “represent.” In this column, Deroy Murdock reveals a lot about the spendthrift ways of labor’s bigwigs.

The LM-2 reports that he refers to have been around for a long time (since the 1959 Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act), but until recently the reporting requirements were so loose that labor unions could easily avoid making disclosures that their officials would rather keep quiet. To her credit, Elaine Chao, the Secretary of Labor, pushed through a change that now makes the LM-2 a revealing document. Naturally, Big Labor (and its congressional allies) fought hard against it, saying that it would be too great a burden.

Burden, schmurden. They simply didn’t want members and the public to get an accurate picture of what unions do with all the money they collect.
