It’s a very illuminating article, demonstrating that a majority of the members in the General Assembly and Governor Easley would rather impose real costs on the people of the state (including, of course, many poor people) than get on the bad side of the environmental lobby with its quest for miniscule and highly speculative environmental improvements.

Naturally, the environmental lobby won’t say, “Well, now that we have saved North Carolina, our business is finished.” There will be more and more demands for costly “green” actions in the future. At what point will the costs imposed on people start to outweigh the chimerical benefits?
