The NC Rural Economic Development Center will give $5 million to 34 entities. $2 million went toward utility capital improvements that are supposed to create 275 jobs. Mills River will receive $301,000 to provide a new grocery store with sewer lines. Mills River’s mayor boasts about a low tax rate. Asheville’s Eagle/Market Streets, which has evidently cleaned up scandalous financial activities from half a dozen years ago, will receive $48,000, apparently for urban rural economic development.
