The N.C. Court of Appeals has rejected retired Wake County Judge Narley Cashwell’s argument that he should be entitled to a tax-free pension.

The complicated case is linked to Cashwell’s service as an assistant district attorney and judge from 1976 to 1986, along with the N.C. Supreme Court’s ruling in the so-called Bailey case. That ruling helps determine which state government retirees are entitled to tax-free pensions.
